Bernard Heesen (Leerdam, 1958) is considered one of the most distinctive and influential glass artists in the Netherlands. His studio is the glassblowing workshop De Oude Horn in Acquoy, the former steam pumping station that his father Willem Heesen transformed into a glassblowing workshop in 1977.

Originally trained as an architect at TU Delft, he developed into a self-taught glassblower in his father's studio with a distinct, baroque idiom.

Heesen prefers to investigate glass in its hottest, liquid phase, allowing chance, color, and texture to play an active role in the creation of the object. His oeuvre includes, among other things, the glass “stones” and the series "Encyclopedic Creations," in which motifs from nineteenth-century encyclopedias are translated into glass and stripped of their original function.

Werk van Heesen's work is included in leading museum collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Twenthe, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (Kunstmuseum Den Haag).
