Where wonder begins

Education and glass art. In 2026, the Glasrijk Tubbergen Foundation will again offer a platform for education on the diverse crafts of glass art. At first glance, perhaps not an obvious combination. But anyone who has ever seen a group of primary school students arranging, graphing, or painting pieces of glass with concentrated looks during past Glasrijk days knows that the magic of glass works! Or tastes the enthusiasm of visitors and artists who try to create something together during workshops.

GLASRIJK Tubbergen has long considered education an essential part of its mission: to share not only the craft but also the wonder with the younger generation. We have proudly welcomed, guided, and inspired dozens of primary and secondary school classes. Young people were introduced to various techniques, met artists personally, and discovered that glass art is something you can feel, make, and understand.

Learning together, close to home
Thanks to collaborations with local schools like Canisius, with artists, and with dedicated volunteers, we've been able to create wonderful programs in the past. From Tiffany technique to glass painting, from forest assignments to glassblowing demonstrations – the children were immersed in the world of glass art for a morning.

This year too, there is a variety of workshops for visitors to gain practical knowledge of the different crafts surrounding glass art.

But no less meaningful!
In 2026, we want to offer children from the municipality of Tubbergen an unforgettable experience again. In 2025, we are doing this with a special program. This year, 150-160 students are participating. We will keep you updated on this page.

Education and GLASRIJK 2026 – learning, experiencing, and shaping with glass

Education is essential for human development and encompasses more than just traditional schooling; it also involves education and training.
The board of GLASRIJK is therefore embracing, for its 30th anniversary edition, a focus on educational programs surrounding glass art.

In addition to general education, there are specializations such as cultural education and media education, which teach people how to engage with art, culture, and modern media. Education and learning from one's immediate surroundings are central to this: people experienced materials, events, and social processes, which contributes to their sense of norms and values.

During the Glasrijk Days, there is an opportunity to get acquainted with various forms of education related to glass art.

 This is how the Glass Art Foundation Tubbergen connects education and creativity in a unique learning experience!

The Glass Academy, during Glasrijk Tubbergen, stands for the tranquility and power of stories in glass.

Searching for beauty
The Glass Academy was born from a deep desire of initiator and art teacher Tanja van Harten om to examine and imagine beauty in glass. After all, it is a material that light, color and transparency brings together in a unique way.​

Not the spectacle, but the story The human being is central: glass becomes a carrier of memories, emotions, and reflections here.

LTo watch, not just to make
In the Netherlands, glass art education is scarce, which is precisely why De Glas Academie deliberately chooses to be a place where experimentation and idealism are given space.Read more here about the Glass Academy.
Students are encouraged in their first year to break free from convention, embrace form exploration, and develop their own visual language step by step.

Glass as a stage and connector for dialogue
The work process at the ovens and tables is more than just technique; it's an invitation to share worldviews, ask questions, and engage in dialogue with one another.
Shapes, light, and color thus become means to seek connection, both between creator and work, and between artwork and viewer.
